House Orizzonte

G'n'B studio as Architects

Located in the Municipality of Avola, a few kilometers from Noto, this splendid residence was born according to the landscape that guarantees a breathtaking view of the Sicilian coast that goes from Syracuse to Portopalo.

As requested by the clients, the design intention was to guarantee always and everywhere, both inside and outside, the view of the sea and the landscape in general.

The house is divided into scenographic, essential and stereometric volumes that give life to a tangible architectural tension. The three main volumes are clearly differentiated and emphasize the compositional game thanks to the use of materials, the distribution of transparencies, colors and dimensions.

The architectural composition, intended as a definition of the main volumes, is adapted to the morphology and orographic characteristics of the site; the volume of the living area dominates and incorporates that of the sleeping area, almost in an 'embrace', a play of forces emphasized by the external colors.

Under a large basement, the environment most in contact with the earth follows the memory and dynamism of the country terraces, which organize the agricultural land of these hills so well. The use of stone cladding such as "dry masonry" for this environment, wants to create a reference to the stone artefacts that characterize the rural landscapes of this part of eastern Sicily, and the use of dark sheet metal that defines the contours of the large glass surfaces emphasize and also become a coating of the main entrance area to the house.

The interior spaces are fluid and dynamic although distinct and outlined by material partitions that contrast with the lightness of the large windows, these highly performing windows can be completely opened, guaranteeing ventilation, natural lighting and insulation.

There is continuity between indoor and outdoor to enhance the beauty of the outside. In fact, the project takes care of the interior space, with designer furnishings chosen for quality, comfort and aesthetic appearance. but favors the outdoors by opening up to the strong scents of the Sicilian countryside with large terraces. Particular attention was paid to the living area, to its welcoming atmosphere, with an open space of 70.00sqm, flooded with light, defined along its perimeter, by a transparent tape that projects the internal space outside, to the point that it last can hardly be defined as such.

The sleeping area is more introverted and since 'the devil is in the details', the designer has created large full-height panels in eucalyptus wood, which can, depending on the desire, hide or not the view of the most intimate spaces from the room.

This voyeuristic attitude is expressed without filters in the master bedroom, totally "open" to the outside on two opposite sides, and equipped with a comfortable appurtenant bathroom, with a scenic bathtub, placed right in front of the glass wall, in such a way as to being able to turn your gaze, at any time, towards the sea.

The pride of the project is the beautiful infinity pool that surrounds the living area on two sides, playing with the glass surfaces, creating a fascinating game of reflections, its cobalt blue and is visible from inside the house, enhancing the view of the horizon.

Casa Orizzonte

Ermetika as Frameless door systems

Today we present you Casa Orizzonte, a fantastic Villa located in the Sicilian countryside near the city of Noto.

The designers of the GnB studio, specialized in civil engineering and architecture, were able to create an original construction that is perfectly integrated with its surroundings.

The planimetric setup that organises the outdoor and indoor spaces with fluidity allows the construction and the landscape to become one.

The large glass walls from which we can enjoy the sea view are opposed by the stone walls and blocks that recall the traditional construction techniques of the Sicilian history.

As for the interior design style it is clear that a minimalist and elegant kind of vibe was preferred also to make the surroundings stand out. That is also why frameless doors by Ermetika were chosen as opposed to the traditional ones. Due to the lack of jambs and architraves, the visual result of these products is a very linear and geometrically pleasing kind of look.

The advantage of Ermetika’s Absolute Swing and Absolute Evo frameless doors is their infinite customisation and durable qualities. As seen on this project they can be used to hide the openings and make them as discreet as possible.
