Leaside Residence

Studio JCI as Architects

Situated on a typical infill lot located in the Leaside Community of Toronto, ON, the design of this home renovation takes full advantage of the site to maximize the width of the house, creating larger public rooms on the ground floor to maximize entertainment space.

While maintaining and open concept floor plan, rooms have been carved out by the careful placement and design of custom millwork, defining the front living and dining space away from the rear kitchen and family room. A large 14’ sliding door at the back of the house extends the living space onto the deck in the warmer months, with build-in barbeque becoming the outdoor extension of the kitchen.

A continued investigation into developing this prototype housing style appropriate for infill single family residences, using a similar material palette of stone, stucco, teak and cedar shakes was carried out across other homes in the neighborhood creating a series: Leaside Residence I-III. While the programming of these single family become similar, each house engages their individual sites in unique ways.
