This new pedestrian and cycle bridge is located between the two cities of Rheinfelden. It connects Germany and Switzerland over the Rhine. After the demolition of an existing pedestrian bridge, the two cities want do re-establish the lost link between the German and Swiss riverbank. This new bridge should form part of the projects for the IBA Basel 2020 and represent the Swiss construction technology. Our answer to this task corresponds to an aesthetically modern infrastructure: a sinuous organic line as an echo of the river and hill landscape. The strength of our project lies in the respectful treatment of the Rhine, despite its distinctive appearance. Simple and free of superfluous details, this soft line follows the forces over the Rhine and thus highlights the beauty of its design: a straight line between the two shores, it forms a natural loop on the German shore before the arc moves back to the Suisse shore. Harmony and balance are the two terms that characterize this bridge. The bridge crossing becomes a special experience and provides new perspectives over the distant landscapes.
