Urban Desert Hillside

Studio V Interior Architecture & Design as Architects

The complete reimagining of this Paradise Valley hillside home began with a notion to honor original architectural details, while elevating the fixtures and finishes and create an open floor plan. Designing for a young, jet-setting couple, the design team’s focus was to capitalize on the expansive desert views and create a synergy between the interior and exterior spaces for both entertaining and relaxation.

What was the brief?

The complete reimagining of this Paradise Valley hillside home began with a notion to honor original architectural details, while elevating the fixtures and finishes and create an open floor plan. Designing for a young, jet-setting couple, the design team’s focus was to capitalize on the expansive desert views and create a synergy between the interior and exterior spaces for both entertaining and relaxation. The home was stripped to the studs, including the massive site walls that run indoor to outdoor, all major mechanical systems were replaced and several structural changes were made to achieve the end result. The designers specified a soft and restrained palette of high-end finishes and materials that echo the desert surroundings and complement the original copper fascia that has oxidized over time. The furnishings are sleek and understated with a mix of gray textiles and warm saddle-colored leathers and are accented by original modern art to create a luxe, layered look. Decorative light fixtures with simple silhouettes and a black finish were selected to contrast against the fresh, bright surfaces. The designers’ scope extended beyond the interior and extended to the north terrace where they designed the water feature, firepit and curved banquette. The thoughtful redesign of this urban desert contemporary projects a timeless, effortless vibe.
