The small house named ‘Yahio T.B.' is located in the prefectural boundary in Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture. And it is surrounded by the light-industrial factories. The owners of this house are a couple in their thirties. They wanted to live friendly with the ferrets and the cat in no influence from the surrounding. One of the reason why there is no windows in the outer walls is that the ferrets dislike the strong sunlight and the temperature change in Japanese summer. And, another reason is that the internal space is to be isolated from the noise, dust and smoke which are caused by the factories and the heavy vehicles. We thought that the natural mechanism to be maintained the internal environment comfortable is necessary. The external spaces such as the roof-terrace and the courtyard extend at three floor levels.
The current of air is generated in them. The reflected sunlight of the glass in the courtyard diffuses softly to the whole. There are five floor levels in the internal spaces. They compose the three-dimensional loop. The inhabitants can stroll anywhere and do not feel their narrowness. We designed and arranged the device furnitures which are appropriate for their conduct and action. For the ferrets, we designed their tunnel and hangout between the difference of the floor levels. The shape of the asymmetric inclination ceiling is quite suitable to exhaust the hot air in summer and to send the warmth to the upper floor in winter naturally. Imaging the hull which breathes autonomous, we additionally designed the slow flows of the fresh air which is taken through some small ventilation openings which can be opened and shut.
