Montagne du Parc

Sustainability in large format It is simply said our largest building we have completed in Europe. It also shows which means of sustainability can implemented even at the early stage of the architectural competition. Cyrille Weiner Old site, new build BNP Paribas Fortis’ new HQ building was to reposition the bank in planning, design and infrastructure terms as well as finding its place in a disparate neighbourhood and opening up to the city. Other requirements included the careful handling of the ground and resources, energy efficiency and high amenity values. Sustainable from A to Z. The careful, storey-by-storey demolition of the old building provided valuable resources thanks to material separation and recycling. The huge... More

Maison des étudiants de la francophonie

This time Baumschlager Eberle Architekten find themselves in a prominent environment. The student city Cité internationale universitaire de Paris (C.U.I.P.) boasts residences by Le Corbusier, Willem Marinus Dudok and Claude Parent. The new Maison des étudiants de la francophonie marks the transition between the noisy Boulevard Peripherique and the quiet rue Hyazinthe Vincent. Cyrille Weiner This urban situation reflects the geometry of the slightly bent building. Its narrow side facing the boulevard accentuates the gateway situation to the boulevard, while the elongated structure leads into the depths of rue Hyazinthe Vincent. In this way, the house defines a concrete site and identity as it engages in dialogue with its... More

Paris Townhouse Place Félix Eboué

The largest square in eastern Paris, the Place Félix Eboué, has a new landmark: the residential and commercial building of Baumschlager Eberle Architekten closes the gap between a modernist building and a Belle Epoque house. Caption Our team in Paris managed to formulate the transition very elegantly with a final terrace and an adjacent tower: The new house presents itself with a strongly sculptural architecture whose articulation reflects the dynamics of the urban space. With its shimmering white façade and striking shutters, it is more than just an enrichment for urban life. Luc Boegly A spatial flow is developed quite consistently, leading from the square via a passage into the landscaped courtyard. In th... More

Kaiyuan Street

A new experience - our largest housing project to dateYANCHENG - THREE TOWERS THAT FOLLOW THE SUNThe city north of Shanghai, is experiencing strong growth and a property boom. The client’s instructions (CEG, China Eagel Group)) to Baumschlager Eberle Architekten were clear: to provide the very highest standards of architecture and interior design. Equally important in satisfying the expectations of potential buyers was the need for all 560 apartments to have a southern aspect. The architects’ response, recently completed. was a striking development comprising three residential towers, 120,000m2 of living space and infrastructure. In stark contrast to the serried ranks of apartment blocks omnipresent in China, the design feature... More

Holdergasse House

The Holdergasse house in Vaduz (Liechtenstein) is a distinctive example of the added value to be gained from architecture. To begin with, the building was situated precisely on the confined plot. It is more than a volume in the open countryside, facilitating, as it does, a dialogue with the surrounding setting.  Thanks to the volume’s L-shaped arrangement with indentations for covered outdoor areas, the rooms can face in different directions. The living room on the first floor “looks” to the south. The large kitchen with dining room and terrace opens up layers of space towards the west. From the terrace to the living room, from the dining room to the staircase there evolves a system of relations which formulates the... More

2226 Graf - multiple dwelling

So far, the 2226 concept has been used in mixed-use buildings. This principle is now applied for the first time to avoid technical installations for heating, cooling and ventilation in a residential building, the multiple dwelling “Graf” in the Austrian town of Dornbirn. Also here minimise high thermal masses, a well-balanced window area, and sensor-controlled vent windows running costs and ensure a pleasant year-round temperature range of 22 to 26 degrees. The optimised internal environment is particularly noticeable for the occupants of a multiple dwelling. The warmth of the interior walls is similar to room temperature, while humidity is in the desirable range of 40 to 60 per cent.  The energy input for the residential... More
