SickKids: Peter Gilgan Centre

Entro designed a donor recognition program, environmental graphics, and a signage system to echo the stunning architecture of the SickKids Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning.   The glass donor wall, designed by Entro, not only serves as a beautiful contrast to the wooden interior of the lobby, it acts as a donor-recognition wall, displaying names of individual benefactors and groups within a grid system.   The wall treatments spanning three stories capture scientific themes in abstract, artistic forms and connect with different research areas: Brain Research, Cancer Stem Cells Biology, and Genetic Diseases. The scientific images of brain cells, genomic patterns, and cancer cells were interpreted as art... More

Munich Re

The revitalization of the Munich Re office was aimed at fostering greater collaboration and creativity. The environmental graphics program plays a key role in supporting this strategy. Design is inspired by the parks and gardens popular to Munich, Germany, where the company headquarters are located.   Expressed through a photo collage that portrays a forest-like scene as if looking skyward, thin white bands are positioned purposefully within the space to lighten the overall density of the graphics.   The environment resembles the gardens, creating a relaxed, social atmosphere protected by a leafy canopy with dappled light peeking through. Abstract graphics based on geometric shapes... More

University of Waterloo Pharmacy Building

The University of Waterloo Pharmacy Building houses the pharmacy school, a medical centre, and is a hub of activity for the university and the community of Kitchener.   Entro's exterior façade mosaic, built within the glass and aluminum structure of the façade, consists of flower patterns inspired by 17th-century botanical drawings. These flower patterns interwoven within the glass create a rhythm and mood that is not only beautiful, but reflective of the organic and holistic approach of the school.   Toronto Star architecture critic Christopher Hume named it one of Southern Ontario’s most influential buildings. A bright anchor among old warehouses, the building played a major role in reviving... More

Enbridge Centre Parkade

Parkades are perceived by many to be unsafe, unfriendly, back of house experiences. At Enbridge Centre, the desire of the owners, Pangman Development Corporation and John Day Developments, was to counter this perception by considering the parking environment as carefully as other elements of the tower development, to make it a positive, safe and user-friendly experience.   The architectural and engineering design of the parkade answered many issues through better lighting, finishes and clear sight lines to the tower shuttle elevators. Entro responded by creating a thematic approach to wayfinding that would positively enliven the space and provide for better orientation. The concept is a celebration of the car itself – b... More

KOKO Restaurant

“THE NARRATIVE TO AN ANCESTRAL FOLKTALE OF THE COCONUT ISLAND”Fascinating oriental flavors complement a wondrous experience playing out at KOKO Restaurant, a dining outlet of The Village Coconut Island Resort Phuket serving self-service breakfast, casual gastronomic dinner, to midnight cocktails.  From a forgotten native folktale of a misfortunate fisherman, believed to be Coconut Island’s pioneer, who was saved ashore after a boat wreck accident by hugging a floating coconut to the island, Studio Locomotive made assumptions further towards his surviving journey and settlement that latter became the design concept of KOKO Restaurant; the fisherman discovered a freshwater pond in this ‘cave’ and decided to... Hotel Gahn

“THE EVOCATIVE TRACES TO THE OLD TOWN TAKUA PA” The pride in her status as ‘Baba-Nyonya’ 峇峇娘惹 (The descendants from the interethnic marriage of the Chinese settlers and native inhabitants of Malay Peninsula and Indonesian Archipelago) is an impression that we, Studio Locomotive, have collected from meeting with ‘Mother’ (the member of the project’s owner family) during the making of ‘Hotel Gahn’ through her dressing in a floral laced blouse, batik sarong, beaded slippers, and fine antique gold jewelry, her home-cooking recipe, and her reminiscences of the ways of living in her hometown.   The mother’s ancestry traced to her grandfather during a prosperous time of tin mining...
