Municipal Library in Kozani

The Municipal Library of Kozani, Greece is the house of many great books of Greek literature, that have huge historical and cultural value. The new building complex which would shelter all  these important books should meet all the safety standards of a modern library that inspires the visitors with its design.   The relocation of the library in a larger space at the center of the city became the blueprint for the architects of ANCA (Antoniou – Castro & Associates) that submitted the proposal for the project. The plot of land in which the new library and its museum was constructed  stands out for its unique triangular shape.  Initially, the land had two farming warehouses. Their positioning guided in a w... More

TWA Hotel at JFK International Airport

Eero Saarinen’s iconic 1962 TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City is among the most significant examples of mid-century modern architecture in the world. The landmark was shuttered for nearly 20 years after the airlines went out of business in 2001, but was later protected in 2005 when it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Eventually, the terminal was saved when MCR and MORSE Development won the bid to turn the historic landmark into a hotel for the 21st century, which eventually opened in May 2019.  The historic Flight Center underwent a total restoration by Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and Planners, LLP; the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Preservatio... Landmarks Hollandsche IJssel

Capelle aan den IJssel is renewing her city center. One of the projects is a landmark at the IJssel, to improve the connection with the river front. It is a location in the Vuykpark, which was a shipyard until the late 1970s. In a working group together with residents and municipality, the design of a number of viewers has been created, which allows the environment to be explored. These viewers work as a periscope, allowing visitors to browse the area without going up. One can see specifically framed images, from a surprising perspective. In the viewers / periscopes a silhouette is made that tells something about (the history of) what is in the picture. As a result, the rich history of the old shipyard site can be tought in an original way.T... More

Dubai Heart Water Park Resort

Site Area: 46,050 sqmFloors: 1 Floor levelHeight: 75 mLocation: Jumeirah Beach, DubaiStatus: ConceptDesigning a landmark is a joy for architects in the process of making ideas. Especially themed resort water park is not one of kinds that architects normally do. Rather it is very unique project in the field of architectural design in terms of the size and symbolic approaches to begin with. Considering regional characteristics of climate and culture, the first thing we have to come up with was how to identify issues and problems related to them. Contextually its environment is vaguely open and wide. Its climate is very hot during summer. In addition, the required condition to the design elements was to achieve the title of... More
