Dry Goods Building

Originally constructed in 1915 and later expanded in 1949, the former Kress Department Store resides in the heart of downtown San Antonio as a contributing structure to the Main & Military Plaza Historic District. Prior to this project, the building had become a shell of its former self, and a stain on a community that is currently on the rise, thanks to private and public investment. Dror Baldinger One of the primary goals of the project was to restore the exterior of facades of the building to their original 1915 character by installing new clerestory windows above the ground floor retail tenant spaces, while also enlarged the storefront glazing area of these spaces as depicted in historical photographs. Witte Building

Built in 1894, this historic property is situated on a "corner" riverwalk lot near Main Plaza in downtown San Antonio. The building had previously been a chinese restaurant, but recently, the building had fallen into major disrepair after numerous remodels over the years that left the building a shell of its former self. Dror Baldinger Fisher Heck was hired as a consultant to Douglas Architects, to help rehabilitate the exterior of the building as a larger effort to fully renovate the entire building into a mixed-use dwelling in the heart of downtown San Antonio. It was constructed in the historical area of the city next to the renovated Iset riverside.Kandinsky comprises two blocks of varying heights — one is allocated for offices, the other for residential premises. Its functional split in half is contrasted with the visual three-section division due to light and dark elements of the residential quarters. The facade facings accentuate Kandinsky’s structure, visually merging the two buildings into one entity. The office block and the first two storeys of the residential quarters are clad with dark gabbro granite and bronze-coloured HPL panels. The remaining part of the building is fac... More

212 East Pittsburgh Street Adaptive Reuse

A former 1930s Packard Dealership that spent decades as an overlooked industrial warehouse finds new life in this dramatic transformation. Our client’s ambitious intentions permitted us to pursue a bold concept that derives its initial gesture from the motion of street traffic. Many speculative commercial tenant buildings appear symmetrical and repetitive not knowing who will occupy the spaces, yet our concept breaks the symmetrical temptation offering the west and east sides a separate identity as the new facade elements manifest themselves slightly differently with special attention given to the east entrance as the most prominent corner. This is the prominent corner seen while traveling West on Pittsburgh Street through downtown Gr... More

Multi family building

High windows reaching more than 2.5 metres allowed an architect to solve the problem arising from the building regulations. Moreover, extraordinary balcony windows have enriched the building with an abundance of natural light, a home-like atmosphere and the perspective of better contact with the surroundings.    Aesthetic and functional   The newly built multi-family building in downtown Richmond, Virginia presents a modern design. Finishing the walls and roof in one colour forms a coherent whole. Its shape matches perfectly with the surroundings, while a minimalist colouring gives the project a timeless character. The project also stands out with the application of innovative technological solutions. This includes FAKRO... More

Project • By HUBTram Stops

The building is situated on the corner of Zegelstraat and Turnhoutsebaan, the latter being a major access road to the city of Antwerp. The building comprises a mixed programme with offices for district police, residences and the entrance to a metro station. The metro station greatly reduces the possibility of bringing down loads on the corner of the site, a fact which defines the project’s tectonic form. The plinth – of the same height as the neighboring buildings – comprises a Vierendeel beam which spans the metro station and distributes the load of the tower volume located on the corner. The façade is a light shell made of aluminium which tempers the support structure’s exuberant character while lending the... More

Etterbeek City Hall

Context and ambition
The new Etterbeek City Hall is located in front of a main road, on Casernes Avenue, in the context of an urban development initiated by the commune on the site called « the Hunting Gardens ». It’s an exceptional opportunity to renew a neighbourhood, a part of the city, and also an opportunity to create a dynamic image for an urban commune.     Site plan   We opted for a clear and open layout for the buildings, favouring lines of communication between the existing neighbourhood and the site’s new development. The communal house was positioned on the corner between Casernes Avenue and Beckers Street for maximum visibility. A pedestrian path that crosses the project was proposed in order to link the future park with the... More
