UCL Student Centre

The Student Centre is built on what was the last piece of undeveloped land on Gordon Street, adjacent to the Bloomsbury Theatre. The sensitive site sits within the Bloomsbury Conservation Area and is adjacent to Grade I and II listed buildings. A collaborative approach was adopted for the project and the design team worked with planners and stakeholders. Consultations were carried out with a range of external stakeholders and neighbours, with plans strongly supported by the Design Council CABE and Historic England. The project has created a new civic realm in the Bloomsbury Campus, resolving circulation routes and refreshing the existing Japanese Garden as a tranquil urban courtyard. It has ten storeys offering 1,000 study spaces, a studen... More

Francis Holland School

The redeveloped Francis Holland School provides additional fit-for-purpose academic space within the constrained Sloane Square site and includes a new Centre for Creative Learning. The design unlocks a dark corner of the school’s unique conservation area setting by eking out a partly subterranean space to house a pavilion and rooftop garden, carefully designed to nestle sensitively within its domestic scale setting. Nick Caville   Our vision combines attractive garden spaces at first floor level with informal learning in the space below, which offers opportunities for independent study and group work and provides a distinctive and comfortable area for pupils to sit and read. The project also includes a three storey exten... More

Blackfriars Circus

Our group of new buildings lines the south-eastern end of Blackfriars Road and fronts St. George’s Circus, an important hub from which boulevards connect to the 18th century river crossings at Lambeth, Westminster, Waterloo, Blackfriars and Southwark. The buildings act to repair the historic form of the circus and introduce a new landmark. A 28-storey masonry tower emerges from the block, set politely one building back so as not to dominate, its slender façade is turned to address the obelisk at the focal point of the circus giving it its hexagonal form. David Grandorge   Set behind the boulevard frontage, a number of more intimate public spaces are created.  A square with café, seating, trees and fount... More

95 Peckham Road

95 Peckham Road is a striking new residential building, located in a prominent position on Peckham Road in the London Borough of Southwark. The building comprises 33 homes, with a policy compliant mix & quantity of social housing; and takes the form of a mansion block style apartment building with a communal tree lined courtyard at the rear, surrounded by courtyard dwellings.   The design was developed following careful analysis of the site and context to ensure that it enhanced and complimented the character of the local area whilst reintroducing a confident, coherent edge to the street in a part of Peckham Road less coherent than its High Street end to the east, or the more formal, civic end to the west. We sought for the build... More
