Barbaros House

Barbaros House is located in Barbaros Village of Urla, İzmir. On the upper east side of the building site, the techno park area of Izmir Institute of Technology is located. While designing the house, the main idea was to achieve a silent living space in a natural environment. Local stone and reinforced concrete were used for the walls and structural system of this project. Both materials have high surface densities and thus provide good acoustic insulation. The room with the exposed concrete façade has two windows and two doors, because it is designed especially for resting and sleeping without any noise. Special acoustic precautions have been taken to prevent any unwanted sound from outside. Outer walls of the whole house consist of two la... More

JR4 House

The land is located in a beautiful landscape of the Jura foothills. On the top of the village of Marnoz near Salins les Bains, on the edge of the existing built-up area up the valley of "Cow", small courtyard flowing in a valley with steep slopes, the natural topography emphasizes the scenic character of the site. However, the plot is characterized by some strong constraints: a single north-facing slope, high gradient (18 meters) and a basement consisting of marl (the site is known for its landslides). In winter the ridge slopes quickly projected shadow on the ground. The house located on the highest point of a hill was not too ostentatious present a position vis-a-vis the village below. It is therefore quite deliberately low, embedded in t... More

Salt and Pepper House

The Owners, a couple in their mid-70's, purchased this home to start their lives together. They got engaged after they bought the house, and got married in the house while it was under construction. They love to cook and collect art, so the palette of white walls and black steel is both a metaphor for salt and pepper, as well as a setting for framing their artwork. Pops of color highlight the colors in their art collection. The house is organized around a central corecontaining service spaces, which creates a seamless flow along the perimeter, with major spaces facing front and back. The existing house was stripped down to its basic elements: brick walls, structural framing members, and outdoor space. The rear second floor was removed to cre... More

Blè food hall

The design for Blè food hall is centered on the idea of the uniqueness of the majestic fire oven. This extraordinary silent feature, visible from the street, is meant to impress and to make the visitor to ponder about one of the key topics of our time: the source of quality and healthy food. As per 1+1=1 style, this relevant concept is expressed in a rather poetic way: the fire oven monolithic form, built of natural clay and whitish earth pigment, is expressed as a symbol of fire, earth and sky. Fire in the earth as that of a volcano, of an organic form that leads our head and eye to move upwards towards the sky thus showing the impressive 12 meter height space of Ble’ 3 storey volume. Reddish stone on floor and walls adds warmth to the... More
