House D in Dornbirn

Stüben, a steep mountain plot above Dornbirn, offers views over the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley, the alpine landscape from the First to the Swiss mountains and in the northwest over Lake Constance. The house captures the panorama with its largely glazed living area on the top floor, and in its formal language, it creates references to the architecture of traditional farmhouses. Bruno Klomfar Bruno Klomfar The found topography largely determines the concept of the house. A narrow path leads between old pear trees to the entrance on the lower level. The basement and the sleeping floor above disappear mostly in the terrain. The two stories are solidly constructed and show themselves as exposed concrete plinth. The distinctive canti... More

Lake House

The house on the lake refers to the local boat and fishing houses and follows the tradition of rural construction by the water. Lightness, a low, wide roof structure and a strong emphasis on the horizontal determine the design. The timber construction, predominantly from local woods, is elevated to protect it from flood. The wooden porch surrounding the house widens to a terrace at the lakeside, completely covered by the steep saddleback roof. The vertical timber formwork of the facades is untreated, with wide glazing allowing generous views into the surroundings. House P in Allgäu

On the edge of a densely built residential area in the Allgäu hills, we created a well-conceived wooden house for a variety of uses. The adjacent popular recreation and landscape conservation area prompted us to incorporate the surrounding nature into the design of the house. The new building follows the proportions of the desolate existing building from the 1960s. The staggered storey set back from the street communicates with the slope, whose original steepness we have restored. The restrained, horizontally structured architecture with a façade made of local wood blends harmoniously into the natural surroundings. Floor-to-ceiling glazing, visual axes and open living spaces that offer numerous views stage nature and bring it in... More

Atelier 111 architekti connects two houses in historical center of Czech village to transform into their family home

Atelier 111 architekti connected two houses in the historical center of Kozina and transformed them into one home. The architects see this reconstruction as a favourable alternative to suburban sprawl. Alex Shoots Buildings While only a few steps separated from the shops and services in the town center, the client was attracted to the site as it is hidden from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding traffic.  Alex Shoots Buildings One of the buildings was in a state of disrepair, the other underwent a significant renovation at the turn of the millennium. The architects got rid of unsuitable modern elements, such as a large dormer and plastic windows and even discovered original masonry behind brick backing. Alex Shoots... More

OPES Works

The property at the edge of an industrial park, surrounded of orchard meadows, inspired us to create a hybrid structure, which blurs the boundaries between the classic typologies of office and residential buildings. Far cantilevered, rectangular ceiling tiles and recessed façades extend the office space to the outside – possibility rooms, which the user can appropriate for a short retreat into the green or for spontaneous brainstorming in the group. At the same time, the surrounding balconies serve as constructive sun and weather protection. The roof is folded several times into pent roofs. Consistently oriented to the south, the roof areas, which are completely equipped with photovoltaics, make an important contribution to the... More

House K

In the far north of the Bregenzerwald lies the small community of Sulzberg on the ridge of the same-named mountain. We built a house on a steep slope in the middle of a densely built-up residential area, which makes perfect use of the limited plot of land. Due to the extreme slope, we have divided the spaces into three floors. You enter the house on the street side on the top level via a wide footbridge. Here you will find the garage, a small guest room and the spacious, open living room. Designed with maximum transparency and openness, it is only structured by the free-standing kitchen unit. The entire south front is glazed and, together with the terrace in front, celebrates the fantastic view over the Bregenzerwald to the high Vorarlberg... More

Palm Medi

Less furnitures, air and sunlight will be free to get in. Less materials, their value are shown up. It's  balance in space.A 70m2 apartment with two bedrooms is located in Hochiminh city, Vietnam. This apartment building was built on an old palm forest beside the big city. It is a raw handing over apartment, but It's original plan was excellent designed with two balconies which created a huge flow for wind to get in and out of the space. In oder to keep the good air and sunlight, we aim to use as less furniture as possible. So, we could have more attention to details and usage of each items. This increase the value of furniture and materials. We tried to use less materials in oder to make a quiet and peacefull space. Only 3 main m... More

TD House | 2015 | SINTRA

The understanding of the area, the relationship of the land with the street and the scale of the street naturally determined the concept of the entire house. The considerable gap between the ground space and the access route defined the way the house was positioned. Ivo Tavares Studio The whole idea develops under a lower area. A white closed building merges with the environment, ensuring greater privacy and protection, superior energy efficiency, simple and clean, almost "monolithic" construction, as well as assuring wind protection and sunlight appreciation. Ivo Tavares Studio The white volume is challenged by two independent boxes at a higher level which elevates the organizational plan to create a relation with the street le... More

Via Donau Administration

The long, one-story structure perfectly and naturally merges into the existing ensemble on the banks of the Danube. Yet it successfully redefines the place, recharges it and provides it with a new unique identity. Floating on a “high-water platform”, its subtle elegance radiates far into the river basin and reflects the interplay between longitudinal wood volumes and transversed rural massive buildings. Bruno Klomfar Bruno Klomfar The roof gable is slightly tilted and lifted to underline the main entrance accessible by ramps. The foyer and the multifunctional seating room are connected to the front terrace to be clearly visible and enhanced to high quality spaces. The wide vertical wooden lamellas to the Danube underl... Wiebeba Administration

The cubic administration building with its asymmetrically cut windows sets a landmark for the site of the hardwood sawmill Wibeba Holz in Wieselburg. With its eye-catching appearance, the small cube can assert itself against the large neighboring industrial buildings and at the same time blends harmoniously into its environment with loosely built up single-family houses. Bruno Klomfar The conceptual idea is based on the requirements of the room program, which in addition to offices also includes specific facilities such as training, recreation and presentation rooms. Due to the split-level typology, each floor is raised by half a story creating elevated rooms according to use. The asymmetrical central access core, which serves as a su... More
